[Unpad Media Channel] Universitas Padjadjaran, through its Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) and in collaboration with the Indonesian Higher Education Archives Association (PAPTI), is hosting the 5th International Conference on Archives, Social Science, Humanities & Education (ICoASHE) 2026 at Bale Rucita, Unpad Rectorate Building, Jatinangor Campus, on July 22–23, 2026. Centered on the theme "Digital Government, Government Technology, and Digital Governance," the conference serves as a platform for the exchange of ideas and collaboration to foster innovation and the development of archival policies in the digital era. 

"Archives are not merely repositories of historical records; they are strategic assets that preserve institutional memory, strengthen transparency and accountability, and provide information for sound decision-making," stated the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Brian Yuliarto, Ph.D., in his remarks delivered via an online video. 

Prof. Brian explained that digital transformation has reshaped how the government delivers public services, formulates policies, and interacts with the public. According to him, the success of this transformation depends not only on technological advancements but also on the ability to build trusted institutions, preserve and manage knowledge, and promote evidence-based policymaking.

Meanwhile, Unpad’s Vice Rector for Resources and Governance, Prof. R. Widya S. Sumadinata, emphasized that the phenomenon of digital governance cannot be understood solely from the perspective of computer technology. According to him, a multidisciplinary approach involving various fields—such as public administration, archival science, sociology, and education—is required to examine aspects of governance, social impact, and data authenticity, as well as to prepare human resources capable of meeting the challenges of the digital era.

"In the digital era, our greatest challenge lies in how to maintain and preserve knowledge digitally. Electronic records management is not merely an administrative matter; it also serves to safeguard historical records and public information transparency, both of which are vital for democracy," Prof. Widya explained.

Dr. Andi Kasman, M.M., Chairman of the Indonesian Archivists Association (AAI), and Prof. Nandang A. Deliarnoor, Organizing Chair of ICoASHE 2026, delivered opening remarks at the event. The international conference featured several distinguished keynote speakers: Drs. Nicolaus Antonius van Hoorn from the Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies (KITLV); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nor Azizah Zainal Abidin from Universiti Utara Malaysia; Prof. Yuan Yuan from the School of Public Administration at Hohai University, China; and Prof. Dr. Muradi, Ph.D., a Professor of Government Studies at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Padjadjaran. 

The conference aims to serve as a collaborative platform for academics, researchers, archivists, and practitioners from various countries to strengthen knowledge exchange and generate innovative ideas regarding the development of digital governance, archival science, social sciences, the humanities, and education. Through this forum, participants are also encouraged to expand international cooperation networks to address the evolving challenges of digital transformation.* (R01)
